Course Objectives

In this module, we will take you through a comprehensive review of the newborn assessment. You will learn about key points to focus on in the perinatal period, such as physical and psychological health of the mother, the family environment, complications during delivery, and principles of neonatal resuscitation. You will develop a basic understanding of the full head to toe physical examination of the newborn that is performed at birth and at discharge. A detailed review of issues to consider during the first 24-48 hours of life, including respiratory distress, feeding difficulties, and jaundice, and problems to keep an eye out for upon discharge home, such as fever/infection and late jaundice, will also be provided.
