In this module, Dr. Jessica Favreau will provide a comprehensive review of the evaluation of a patient presenting with neck pain. Participants will understand the common pathologies and how to approach patients with neck pain injuries. The learner will acquire knowledge about the main causes and the difference between benign and more serious neck pain requiring imaging and intervention. Dr. Favreau will review critical questions to ask in a history, including red flags and yellow flags crucial not miss and associated symptoms and signs to look for in an exam. You will learn about what findings to look for on physical examination to determine whether the neck pain is due to an organic pathology and also about which laboratory/imaging investigations to order in the appropriate situations. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the management of the different causes of neck pain, including lifestyle modifications and judicious use of pharmacological therapy, and the importance of addressing the psychosocial factors of a patient with neck pain.
