Course Objectives

In this module, we provide you with a framework to identify and treat potentially life threatening insect stings and bites. In evaluating an insect sting or bite, one should be focused on ruling out anaphylaxis first, because this situation requires immediate intervention. Insects can carry venom or they can serve as vectors for infectious agents, knowledge of some of these agents is important when treating patients. Management can range from epinephrine administration to surgical debridement in necrotic ulcer.
