Course Objectives

In this module, we will provide a comprehensive review of the evaluation of a child presenting with incontinence. In addition to providing the diagnostic definition of enuresis and an overview of the different types of enuresis, this course will review critical questions to ask in history, including age and developmental stage, associated symptoms such as constipation, and emotional status of the child. You will learn about what findings to look for on physical examination to determine whether the enuresis is due to an organic pathology and also about which laboratory/imaging investigations to order in the appropriate situations. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the management of enuresis, including successful behavioural modifications strategies and judicious use of pharmacological therapy, and the importance of addressing the psychological well-being of a child with enuresis.
