Course Objectives

In this module, we will take you through the evaluation of an infant presenting with inconsolable crying. You will learn the key differences between normal crying, colic, and pathological crying. A review of questions to ask in history and signs to look for on physical examination will also be discussed. In particular, you will learn about the red flags to look for, such as delayed development and worrisome associated symptoms, which may indicate an underlying pathological process as the cause for crying. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the approach to and management of colic, including the importance of parental and caregiver education and support.
