In this module, we will provide you with a comprehensive overview of an approach to child abuse. You will learn about the different types of child abuse and will be provided with a review of questions to ask in history and signs to look for on physical examination. In particular, you will learn about the red flags to look for, such as inconsistent or changing history, patterned injuries, and delay in seeking medical attention. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the top 10 things that every clinician should know about child abuse, including the importance of documenting physical findings and making note of histories and injuries that are uncharacteristic for developmental age, and will gain an understanding of the general management approach, which includes reporting child abuse to the appropriate authorities, even in instances where abuse is only suspected.
