In this module, we will discuss the diagnostic approach to and management of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). You will gain an understanding of the diagnostic criteria for ADHD and learn about the questions to ask in history, including the importance of obtaining collateral history from school teachers and other caregivers who have observed the child’s behaviour. An overview of the rating scales and behavioural questionnaires to use in assisting in the diagnosis and evaluation of the child will also be discussed. Lastly, you will learn about the various management strategies for ADHD, including psychosocial and biological interventions, and will be given an overview of the prognosis of untreated ADHD.
