Course Objectives

In this module, we will discuss an approach to poisoning through a modified SOAP approach that will allow you to determine and treat appropriately a variety of potential toxins. Through a focused history and examination, you will learn how to correctly identify the main toxidromes, including sympathomimetics, anticholinergics, opioids, and cholinergics. Additionally, you will learn which investigations to order and how to interpret a variety of investigations including EKGs, anion gaps, and osmolality gap. Finally, you will learn how to treat and manage patients that have been poisoned, including specific antidotes to toxins.
