Course Objectives

In this module, we will discuss the approach to a patient with anxiety. You will receive a thorough explanation of each disorder categorized in the anxiety class, and how to distinguish each to arrive at a diagnosis. You will learn the diagnostic criteria for each and how to elicit it through the mental status exam, including the anxiety, worry and physical symptoms. Medical history, physical exam and lab work up are also important, to rule out medical conditions that may precipitate anxiety. The principles of management including psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy will also be outlined.
